EYELASH EXTENSION - FAQS

What are lash extensions?

Lash extensions are synthetic lashes used to help enhance your natural eyelashes and eyes

How long will they last?

The longevity of lash extensions is dependent on the client’s lash cycle and their aftercare (ex. regular cleansing, sleeping on your back, avoiding the use of oil-based products, etc.) Natural lashes grow in and fall out every 2 weeks. As they increase in length, you may find them twisting and turning. On average, clients are recommended to book a fill every 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to remove these out grown lashes to keep them looking fresh and consistent. It is natural to see up to 5 lashes shed per day. This number may be increased during Autumn and Spring as our bodies adjust to the cooler and warmer temperatures. Seasonal hair loss applies to the eyelashes too!

What is a refill appointment?

At refill appointments, out grown lashes are removed and new lash extensions are applied to the natural lash.

How long is the appointment?

The length of the appointment varies with the style of lashes and your technician.

How long should I wait to get a refill?

Refills are required every 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to keep them looking beautiful and consistent.

How do I take care of them?

Lash extensions help to shorten our time to get ready in the morning but they also require maintenance. For best results and longevity, brush the lashes at least twice a day or whenever they are tangled to prevent fallout and clumping. Regular cleansing (everyday) with a gentle, oil-free cleanser and a fluffy makeup brush is also high recommended. Not only does this keep them looking fresh and debris-free, it also helps to prevent eye infections and irritants. The bristles of the brush will aid in getting in between each lash and at the root.

What is the difference between the techniques?

Classic - One synthetic lash is applied onto a single natural lash. Results in a natural, mascara appearance where length can be achieved.

Hybrid - A mix of single lash extensions and volume fans (multiple, thinner, lashes glued to a single natural lash). This set results in a natural but fuller appearance.

Volume - Two or more eyelash extensions applied onto a single natural lash, resulting in a voluminous and full appearance. Lashes that are thinner in diameter compared to the classic lashes are used; therefore, allowing more to be applied onto a single lash.

Mega Volume - use of even thinner lashes; fans can consist of 7 or more lashes that are applied to a single natural lash. This type of set results in a very voluminous and fuller appearance. For those that desire the "blackout" look.

Am I a good candidate for lashes?

Clients should have natural lashes that are at least 3mm long. If the client's lashes are fine and sparse, it is suggested that the client uses an eyelash serum to help strengthen and grow their eyelashes before getting them done. Clients who have no eyelashes are not candidates to get eyelash extensions as the extensions are applied onto the natural lashes.

Can I apply mascara and curl them?

No. Applying mascara and curling the eyelash extensions will damage the lashes and result in them looking clumpy and wonky. Mascara is also difficult to remove from lash extensions. Applying eyelash extensions is to help avoid applying mascara and curling them. Lash extensions will retain their curl with proper aftercare.

I am going on vacation, when is the best time to get them done?

The best time to get eyelash extensions would be 2 days prior to departure for the glue to completely cure. If you have not had lash extensions applied before, it is recommended to come in for a patch test and full set 2 weeks prior to see if any allergies or sensitivities occur, then come in for a refill appointment at least 2 days prior to leaving.

My eyes are sensitive, what happens if I’m allergic?

A lash patch test is recommended for every new client to see if you will react to the glue or irritate from the eyelash extensions. Pure Beauty Studio also carries a hypoallergenic glue to help with sensitivity. Please call the studio at 613-695-5088 for more information.

Can I swim, shower, exercise or visit a spa while wearing Eyelash Extensions?

If needed, yes you can. However, keep in mind it may affect the lash retention. Clients may require to come back for a refill sooner as water, sweat, and heat contributes to lash fallout.

How should I prepare for my lash appointment?

Clients are suggested to come in without eye makeup and to avoid drinking coffee or other energy drinks as artists are working close to the eyes and it can cause the eyes to jitter during the appointment.

What happens if I am unsure what technique or style to get?

A consultation is done prior to lash application. It is recommended to research online the different styles and to get an idea of what you are looking for. Please keep in mind that each set of eyes are unique and the results will vary depending on the client’s eye shape, sparseness of the lashes and the amount of natural lashes they have.
